Emotional Literacy

Emotional Literacy is a small group or one-to-one intervention designed to develop self-awareness and recognition of your own feelings, and increase knowledge of how to manage them. Key aspects of emotional literacy include:

  • Recognising and identifying emotions: Understanding what you're feeling and what others are feeling.
  • Understanding emotions: Knowing why you're feeling the way you are and how emotions influence behaviour.
  • Expressing emotions appropriately: Communicating your feelings in a healthy and constructive way.
  • Managing emotions: Developing strategies to cope with difficult emotions and regulate emotional responses.
  • Empathy and understanding: Recognizing and considering the feelings of others.

The intended outcome is for students to show progress in self-awareness and to develop the ability to understand, express, and manage one's own emotions and those of others.
