Social skills

Social Skills is a small group intervention following a Talkabout for Teenagers resource to help develop social competence and confidence, helping to build self-awareness toolbox-esteem. In the Autumn Term 2024, the Social Skills intervention group worked through Section 1 Talkabout me: self-awareness and self-esteem. In Spring Term 2025 the Social Skills intervention group worked through Section 2: Our faces: what our faces say. In Summer Term 2025 the Social Skills intervention group were working through Section 3: Our voices: emotional talk. In Autumn 2025 the Year 8 Social Skills groups are working on listening skills: What makes a good listener and why is this important in making connections with others and building relationships.

The Year 7 Social Skills groups are starting from the beginning of the programme, starting with the Student Voice part where they all identify what they struggle with in making connections with others. They are moving onto what qualities do they think they have and what qualities would they like in a friendship.
